Why Attend Church?
If you are not sure you are a Christian:
When you attend a Bible-believing church, you hear truth from the Bible that can help you understand what it means to become a Christian. You also hear truth about the greatness of God, you hear important truths from the Bible, and you hear about your need to trust Jesus and become a Christian.
When you attend church, you come in contact with other Christians who also can help you understand the Bible and what it means to become a Christian. Christians in any church aren’t perfect, but they have been changed by God’s Spirit and can help you understand that change.
Please be informed that attendance at church does not make you a Christian. For more information on that matter see Good News for You.
If you are a Christian:
We live in a day of rugged individualism. Many people do not want to be a part of a church. After all, church attendance does not save, so why go through all the hassle to be involved? Serious Christians who honor Christ and his Word must be involved in a church for the following reasons:
You as a believer are part of a brotherhood with family benefits and responsibilities. Upon conversion the believer enters into two new relationships. First, a relationship with God through Jesus Christ, but secondly, the believer enters into a new relationship with others who are God’s children, your brothers and sisters in Christ. In the brotherhood of church family, burdens are shared (Galatians 6:2), people are mutually encouraged (Hebrews 10:25), people are forgiven (Ephesians 4:32) and mutual love is experienced (John 13:34 -35; Hebrews 13:1).
You as a believer are part of a flock with the privileges of being shepherded and responsibilities to a shepherd. Hebrews 13:17 speaks of both of those elements.
Finally, it is impossible to grow spiritually as you ought without service in a church. Ephesians 4:16 says that believers grow as “each part does its work” in service to each other as unto Jesus Christ.
