Most of Tom’s early life was spent in Des Moines, IA. He became a follower of Christ in 3 rd grade Sunday School class and was baptized in 5 th grade. Before starting high school, his family of seven moved to northern Indiana. Due to the job transfers of his dad, he went to four different high schools!
Tom earned a B.A. in Bible-Christian Education from Cedarville University. He owned a small construction business (usually just himself!) to put himself through school. During college years he was also active in ministry at churches in Springfield and Hillsboro, OH where he worked with children and teenagers. The authors that have challenged him the most recently are Ravi Zacharius, John Piper, and Chip Ingram. He has been on staff at Central Baptist Church for nearly five years-shattering the national average! His responsibilities include pastoring 7 th-12 th grade students and leading weekly worship services, as well as coordinating various church events.
In August of 1998, Tom married his college angel, Amanda, and today they live in Hobart, IN with two cats: Reeses and Tanna. Amanda enjoys teaching piano in her home studio. They both enjoy traveling, and between the two of them they have visited 29 US states, the Bahamas, Canada, England, France, Italy, and Switzerland.
Tom enjoys sports (especially basketball & soccer), reading, movies, playing guitar, eating his wife’s food, drinking mocha frappuccinos, and good theological conversations among other things. His favorite musical groups are Third Day, Steven Curtis Chapman, Rich Mullins (way-distant relative), and more recently-Blue Man Group. He still enjoys construction and can sometimes be found piddling around with the never ending project of remodeling his basement.
In January of 2006, an unbelieveable event happened in Tom and Amanda's life. Go to Family Pictures above or link to the Article in the NW Indiana Times.
